# Skills Library

The **Skills Library** is a centralized repository for creating, managing, versioning, and deploying reusable AI capabilities within an organization. Skills are specialized, modular knowledge components designed to enhance AI agent performance by providing domain-specific expertise, standardized procedures, operational workflows, and contextual guidance. The Skills Library also includes **native, built-in skills** that provide predefined capabilities and can be readily utilized by AI agents, alongside custom skills developed to meet organization-specific requirements. By packaging instructions, technical documentation, and supporting files into structured, version-controlled skills, the library ensures consistent, reliable, and scalable agent behavior across projects while maintaining full control over skill configuration, management, deployment, and continuous evolution.

### What are Skills?

Skills are structured packages of capabilities that extend an agent's functionality beyond its base system prompt. Each skill consists of:

* **Core Documentation** (`SKILL.md`): Defines the skill's purpose, instructions, and metadata through a frontmatter-based configuration
* **Supporting Files**: Additional resources such as templates, examples, configuration files, or reference documentation
* **Version History**: A complete audit trail of changes with the ability to roll back to previous versions
* **Metadata**: Name, description, tags, and organizational information for discovery and management

#### Key Characteristics

* **Autonomous invocation**: Agents select and use skills based on natural language descriptions - no explicit programming required.
* **Structured inputs**: Each skill defines required parameters through a JSON schema.
* **Reusable**: Configure once, use across multiple agents.
* **Modular**: Combine multiple skills to handle complex workflows.
* **Versioned**: Maintain draft and production versions with rollback capability.

#### Types of Skills

The platform supports two categories of skills:

1. [**Native Skills**](/skills-library/native-skills.md): Platform-provided skills managed by the system. These are read-only and serve as examples or foundational capabilities.
2. [**Custom Skills**](/skills-library/custom-skill.md): Organization-created skills built and maintained through the Skills Library. These support full lifecycle management including creation, editing, versioning, and deletion.
