# Cloning Skills

### Overview

Skill cloning allows you to create a new skill from an existing skill. The cloned skill serves as an independent copy that you can customize to meet specific organizational, team, or workflow requirements without modifying the original skill.

Cloning is particularly useful when you want to reuse established instructions, guidelines, and structures while adapting them for different use cases.

For example, you can clone a general-purpose API security review skill and customize it with your organization's internal security policies, authentication requirements, and compliance standards.

### When to Use Skill Cloning

Use skill cloning when you want to:

* Customize native skills: Create an editable version of a read-only native skill.
* Create organization-specific skills: Extend existing skills with internal processes, policies, and standards.
* Develop specialized variants: Adapt a skill for different teams, roles, departments, or industries.
* Experiment with new approaches: Test changes without affecting an existing skill used in production.
* Preserve existing configurations: Maintain a stable version while developing an updated version.
* Reuse existing structures: Accelerate skill creation by starting from an established template.

### How to Clone a Skill

You can clone both native and custom skills to create versions tailored to your requirements.

#### Steps to Clone a Skill

1. Navigate to the Skills Library section: Open the Skills section of the platform to view the available native and custom skills.
2. Select the skill to clone: Browse or search for the skill you want to duplicate. Open the skill to view its details and existing configuration.
3. Choose the Clone option: From the skill's available actions, select Clone to initiate the cloning process.
4. Enter the cloned skill details.

Provide a meaningful name for the cloned skill.

   For example:

   * Original Skill: API Security Review Guidelines
   * Cloned Skill: Company API Security Review
5. Create the cloned skill.

Confirm the cloning action to create a copy of the selected skill. The cloned skill can then be customized independently of the original.
6. Customize the cloned skill.

Open the cloned skill and modify its content according to your requirements. You can:

   * Add organization-specific instructions and guidelines.
   * Update existing procedures and examples.
   * Remove irrelevant content.
   * Include internal standards, policies, or references.
7. Save and test the cloned skill.

Save your changes and validate the cloned skill using relevant test scenarios to ensure it behaves as expected.
8. Publish the cloned skill.

Once the skill has been reviewed and tested, publish it to make the customized version available for use.
